Submission to Health Canada Wind Turbine Noise and Health Study, 2012
Re: Health Canada's Wind Turbine Noise and Health Study Design
We do not yet live near any wind turbines, however, I have been following the issue for the last 5 or 6 years. Several projects have been proposed very close to our home. I am very concerned that proper health studies have not been done and pleased that the federal government has finally arranged for one to take place which actually speaks to the people who have been affected. There is no doubt that some people are adversely affected and that the setbacks in Ontario are insufficient.
We respectfully request that the comment period, currently set to expire on August 8th, 2012, be extended as the announcement of the comment period was released at the height of summer vacation for Canadian citizens and summer harvesting for our farming families (who are also dealing with drought and flood – depending on the part of the country).
We would also like to know:
- Why is there no representation of the international independent researchers that have spent years working directly on wind turbine illness and related issues to provide input and advice on the study design as part of the Health Canada panel?
- Why is there no representation of adversely affected citizens on the panel to provide study design input regarding the issues and impacts related to the implementation of this new technology?
We respectfully request that you include Dr. Robert McMurtry (among others) in your consultations.
We also respectfully request that you reconsider the inclusion of children in your study. Parents can give consent. We refer you to the following video by the aforementioned Dr. McMurtry which describes the experiences of two children who would have no pre-conceived notions about wind turbines.
Thank you for your attention to our comments.
